Community Family Worker

About

Kia Ora from Laura, the Community Family Worker.

Kia ora, my name is Laura, and I started in the role of Community Family Worker at Fiordland Community House in February 2022. Originally from Murihiku/Southland, I have been a frequent visitor to Fiordland for some time, and I made the permanent move to Te Anau in September 2020.

Having previously studied a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at The University of Otago in 2021, I enrolled as a distance student in their Master of Social and Community work (applied) programme. This is a professional course that will enable me to register as a qualified Social Worker once completed. I have also gained several introductory and graduate certificates over the years in areas such as English Language Teaching, Te Reo M?ori, Tikanga M?ori & Local Government Communications.

I strongly believe in the values of empathy, empowerment, and equity. If you are looking for personal support through hardship; information regarding individual rights & access to services; and/or if you have any ideas for community engagement & development that you would like assistance with, please do reach out either directly to me, or to the team at Fiordland Community House.
