Te Anau

About

The hub of the Fiordland region is the attractive town of Te Anau, located on the southeastern shores of Lake Te Anau. The serene deep waters of Lake Te Anau make up the largest lake in the South Island and the second largest in NZ. It is bordered on its western side by Fiordland National Park. The town is known for its stunning natural beauty and is often referred to as the "Gateway to Fiordland National Park".

Te Anau is a popular tourist destination, particularly for those interested in outdoor activities such as sightseeing, hiking, fishing, and boating. The town is surrounded by mountains and forests, and there are many trails and tracks for visitors to explore. The Kepler Track, Milford Track and Routeburn Tracks are three of New Zealand's popular Great Walks, which start nearby the town.

Te Anau provides a full range of services and activities and is the closest service point to Milford Sound, 120 kilometres away. The primary industry in the area is tourism, with many seasonal jobs coming up during the warmer months of October - April each year.

In addition to its natural attractions, Te Anau has a range of amenities, including restaurants, cafes, and shops. There is also a wide range of sporting & interest clubs and local events for adults and children.
